Transitional Living Program
The goals of the Arnette House TLP is to provide an empowering life experience, in a stable, safe, and secure living and learning environment, for the homeless and run-away youth of the Arnette House service area. This consists of Marion, Lake, Citrus, Sumter, and Hernando Counties.
Arnette House TLP provides living accommodations, independent living skills training, educational opportunities, awareness and referral to substance abuse counseling, advocacy, referral and linking services, and mentoring to the youth served, in a client-centered approach that accesses each individual's innate talents and empowers the individual with the tools necessary to be productive members of society, and able to thrive in an ever-changing environment.
Arnette House believes that there are no 'bad children' , but opportunities to affect positive change and growth in the lives of young people who are experiencing difficult transitional, family, or personal problems in their lives. The TLP is an additional service designed to augment and enhance the services already provided by Arnette House. The TLP is not meant to replace the basic shelter program. However, it is to provide an alternative to a traditional institutional programs historically accessed by homeless and runaway youth.
The TLP is based on the concept that youth today are not better or worse, in behaviors and attitudes, than any previous generation. Today's youth, in an attempt to make sense of their world, at times makes choices void of stable family and social support systems; therefore, some individuals lack the basic skills required to not just survive, but thrive in today's complex society. Arnette house TLP believes we can affect the future, on youth at a time.
The program serves young adults ages 16-17 that currently have no home or no safe home to return to. These youth do not have adequate food, shelter, or resources/support systems to live manageable lives. Youth may be classified as runaway, "throw-away" , or homeless.
