Arnette House Residential Programs
Being a teenager and a parent can be difficult with all of the challenges that are facing families today. Sometimes the pressures and stresses of life become so out of control that a family may feel as though they can no longer hold it together. Arnette House programming can help. Youth may reside at the residential shelter for a brief period of time. The purpose of the stay is to begin working on issues in the adolescent’s life that may have brought them to the shelter in the first place. While in the residential program, the youth will be assigned a counselor that will work with them and their entire family in order to reunite the family in a positive environment. Services that are available to youth ages 10-17 include:

Emergency Shelter
Is available to youth that have runaway or are threatening to runaway, homeless or locked out of their home, habitually truant, in need of emergency shelter, or in need of a time out from an escalating family situation in our 24-bed facility.

Transitional Living Program
Housed in our most-recent addition, the Vernon Arnette Center, this program allows adolescents, ages 16-21, to have an opportunity to learn independent living skills, while residing at our long-term 6-bed facility. Youth are expected to work at least part-time and pursue either a high school diploma or GED.

Education & Recreation
Youth in the shelter will be involved many educational activities including school, tutoring and a variety life skills. Youth learn the value of volunteering by engaging in community service. Youth are introduced to future career choices and giving opportunities to explore those careers if they are interested.

Youth Development Activities
Each day residents participate in groups that engage them in structured conversations about issues such as alcoholism, drugs, HIV and AIDS awareness, abstinence, violence, abuse and many other topics that youth and families may be exposed to.

Food Services & Household Managment
While in the shelter, youth are required to participate in many life skills activities. Youth have the opportunity to learn about managing money through a Junior Achievement program. Proper food handling and cleaning skills are also learned.

Counseling
While in shelter, youth will participate in individual and family counseling. Counseling is personalized to address their needs and includes a case plan that identifies social, psychological and behavioral goals.
